Press release from Friends of the Library
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – This week-end through Wednesday, October 26-30, Friends of the Library will host its Fall Book Sale 2024 in Gainesville at its bookhouse, 430 North Main Street. This five-day event is free and open to the public.
With convenient hours, Saturday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday-Wednesday noon – 6 p.m., this much-anticipated and popular event offers over 500,000 gently used, community donated, and carefully sorted and prepared books of all genres, works of art, puzzles, games, vinyl records, CDs, music scores, Manga, movies, magazines, and much more for sale at EXTREMELY LOW PRICES. Most items are priced between 25 cents and $5. Cash, checks, credit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay are accepted.
Friends of the Library is an all-volunteer and independent organization with a lofty goal of promoting literacy. The funds raised through two book sales a year are used to provide extra support to projects of the Alachua County Library District and other community projects promoting literacy.
This sale will open on Saturday with our bagpipe player in full Scottish attire leading the way with his music into the main part of the bookhouse. The main part of the bookhouse is packed to the brim with books of over 60 categories! While there is a large selection of children’s and young adult books, there are other categories equally enticing – anthropology, sci-fi novels, paper and hardback novels, biology, foreign language books, medical and nursing books, cook books, engineering and math books, a huge table of almost every hobby imaginable, poetry, drama, classical literature, religion, romance novels, military history, humor, travel, self help, sports, large print books, audio books, music scores from sheet music to concertos, vocal and instrumental collections, sociology, and biographies to name a few! Shelves are constantly restocked! Also housed in the main part of the building is The Collector’s Corner (open Saturday-Tuesday only), a special area for true bibliophiles, offering many first edition, rare, and signed volumes as well as memorabilia of local historical value.
The front part of the building, with its own separate entrance, houses ART in all forms. Oil and watercolor paintings, as well as prints and posters, cover the walls. The bookshelves here are filled with books on photography, architecture, art form how-to books, and beautiful coffee table volumes! There are picture frames and other works of art to choose from. No one will be disappointed!
On Tuesday, all items and books are reduced to HALF PRICE. On Wednesday, all items are further reduced to TEN CENTS! On Thursday, after the sale has ended, any remaining items are offered to Florida-registered nonprofit organizations at no charge. This way, the entire bookhouse is cleared in preparation for the next six months of new donations!
Don’t miss this family-friendly, fun-filled event. We guarantee there is something here to excite and please every member of your family from age 0-100+ !!!!!
