Ft. Myers man killed while walking in travel lane of U.S. Hwy 301 in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – A 44-year-old Ft. Myers man was killed this morning while walking in a travel lane of U.S. Hwy 301 in Hawthorne.

According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 6:10 a.m. on April 19, a sedan driven by a 47-year-old Gibston man was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 301 near SE 41st Lane when it struck a pedestrian walking in the right northbound travel lane of the highway.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
