Press release from the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Alumnae Chapter (GAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is proud to announce its 40th Charter Anniversary Celebration, a three-day weekend event honoring four decades of commitment to public service, scholarship, and sisterhood in North Central Florida. The celebration, themed “Forty Charter Members, Forty Years of Fortitude: Honoring Our Legacy, Advancing Our Impact,” will take place from Friday, October 24, through Sunday, October 26, 2025.
“Our 40th Charter Anniversary is a deeply meaningful moment for our Chapter and for Gainesville,” said Gwendolyn Saffo, President of the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter. “It is a time to honor the 40 visionary women who chartered GAC on October 26, 1985, and to rededicate ourselves to impactful service in education, health, and economic empowerment. We are excited to welcome Soror Beverly E. Smith, a trailblazing leader, to help us mark this historic occasion.”
The commemorative weekend will kick off on Friday, October 24th, with an Anniversary Reception, bringing together current members, distinguished guests, and community partners to reflect on the Chapter’s history. The celebratory highlight will occur on Saturday, October 25th, at 1:00 p.m. with the Charter Day Luncheon, held at Trinity United Methodist Church (4000 NW 53rd Ave., Gainesville, FL). The luncheon will feature the esteemed Beverly E. Smith, the 26th National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., as the keynote speaker.
The weekend will conclude on Sunday, October 26th, at 10:45 a.m. with a spirit-filled Worship Service at Greater Bethel AME Church (701 SE 43rd St., Gainesville, FL), giving thanks for 40 years of dedication and praying for the Chapter’s continued success in the community.
