Gainesville Community Band to present “Celebrating the Big Band Era” on Sept. 15

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Community Band is thrilled to announce its upcoming fall concert, “Celebrating the Big Band Era,” which will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The concert will be held at the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Auditorium located on the main Santa Fe College Campus at 3000 NW 83rd Street. This special performance promises to transport audiences back to a golden age of music with classic tunes from the swing era.

Under the direction of Gary Langford, the Gainesville Community Band will perform an array of timeless pieces by Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, and others. The audience can expect to hear beloved standards like “Wonderful World,” “April in Paris,” and other favorites that capture the spirit of the Big Band era and celebrate a vibrant period in American musical history where big bands dominated the airwaves and dance halls across the nation.

The Gainesville Community Band, known for its dedication to promoting the arts and fostering a love for music within the community, has been a staple of the Gainesville music scene and is celebrating its 50th year! This spring concert is part of their ongoing effort to offer high-quality performances that are accessible to all.

Admission to the concert is a $5 donation at the door.
