Gainesville Housing Authority welcomes 300+ residents, partners, and community leaders to new ELITE Training Plaza at today’s Unity Festival and Dinner
Press release from Gainesville Housing Authority
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Housing Authority (GHA) welcomed residents, community leaders, and partners to a powerful evening of connection and celebration during the ELITE Plaza Unity Dinner and Festival, held Thursday at the newly unveiled ELITE Training Plaza.
Designed as a long-table, family-style gathering, the Unity Dinner and Festival brought the community together around food, fellowship, and a shared commitment to advancing housing stability and workforce opportunity in Gainesville. The event marked both a holiday celebration and a reflection on the progress being made through GHA’s housing and economic empowerment initiatives.
“The ELITE Plaza Unity Dinner and Festival represents our philosophy that everyone deserves a seat at the table,” said Pamela Davis, Chief Executive Officer of the Gainesville Housing Authority. “By breaking bread together at the ELITE Training Plaza, we are strengthening the bonds that make Gainesville resilient. We are celebrating how far we have come in providing sustainable housing and empowerment opportunities and looking forward to the work we will continue to do together.”
Guests enjoyed a family-style meal curated and served by Chef Carl Watts of Chef Empowerment, whose work centers on using food as a tool for social change. Live entertainment added to the festive atmosphere, creating a welcoming space for conversation, reflection, and celebration.
“Sharing a meal is one of the most powerful ways to bring people together,” Watts said. “Cooking for the ELITE Plaza Unity Dinner and Festival is an honor because this event is about more than great food. It’s about celebrating community, dignity, and the opportunities GHA is creating for families here in Gainesville. I’m proud to help set the table for an evening of connection and hope.”
The Unity Dinner and Festival also spotlighted the impact of the ELITE Training Center, which opened earlier this year as a hub for Empowerment, Life skills, Innovation, Training, and Entrepreneurship. Since its launch, ELITE Plaza initiatives have supported job training and youth development for 87 residents, helping bridge the gap between housing stability and economic independence.
In addition to workforce development, GHA highlighted recent milestones including continued expansion of affordable housing, with plans underway to construct up to 200 new units for Alachua County families, and the delivery of wrap-around services supporting youth education, senior care, and digital literacy.
