Gainesville Latino Film Festival honored with continued recognition from Cinema Tropical

Press release from Gainesville Latino Film Festival

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For yet another year, the Gainesville Latino Film Festival is proud to be featured by Cinema Tropical, the leading national organization devoted to promoting Latin American cinema in the United States. This ongoing recognition highlights our festival’s role in bringing diverse Latinx voices to audiences in Gainesville and beyond.

Since its founding, Cinema Tropical has been a pivotal force in expanding the visibility of Latin American filmmakers and films. Being featured by this national organization underscores the importance of the Gainesville Latino Film Festival’s mission: to foster dialogue, community, and understanding through Latinx cinema.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized by Cinema Tropical once again,” said Ericka Ghersi, producer of the Gainesville Latino Film Festival. “This recognition is a testament to the growing impact of our festival, and we are thrilled to be part of a broader cultural movement that celebrates the richness of Latinx stories through film.”

The festival, a staple of Gainesville’s cultural landscape for 21 years, has consistently brought together filmmakers, audiences, and cultural leaders to showcase award-winning films that explore vital themes such as identity, migration, and social justice. The support of community organizations like Visit Gainesville has played an essential role in the festival’s growth and continued success.

“We are grateful to all of our supporters, including Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area by Downtown Events Grant Program, funded by the City of Gainesville and Alachua County, and by Visit Gainesville, Alachua County, and Children’s Trust of Alachua County, whose contributions help make this event possible year after year,” said Ericka. “It’s thanks to their ongoing commitment that we are able to share these powerful, often underrepresented stories with a wider audience.”

The Gainesville Latino Film Festival continues to be a leader in elevating Latinx voices in film, providing a platform for filmmakers and storytellers from Latin America and the U.S. to engage with diverse communities.
