Gainesville man arrested after shooting his brother

On Saturday, November 21, 2020, at approximately 6:59 p.m., Gainesville Police Department officers and detectives responded to calls of a shooting incident at the 300 block of NE 18th Street.

At the scene, Daniel John Brown was found with a gunshot wound to his head. EMS rendered aid and immediately transported him to UF Health Shands ER.

According to the arrest report, Brown told his brother, Robert Joseph Brown, and another roommate, that he wanted to die and asked his brother to kill him. At some point, Robert Brown “brandished a firearm, pulled the trigger, and shot the victim in the head.”

Post Miranda, Robert Brown told detectives that he was trying to scare the victim, but his brother moved his head back when he fired the gun.

Robert Joseph Brown was initially charged with Aggravated Battery and remains in the Alachua County Jail pending $750k bond, which was set before the victim died. The victim, Daniel John Brown, later succumbed to his injuries and died.
