Gainesville man arrested for distribution and possession of child pornography

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

On October 1, 2020, the Gainesville Police Department (GPD) Internet Crimes Against Children Division, with the assistance of GPD SWAT, served a search warrant on 117 NW 36th Terrace.

The warrant was issued as part of an investigation that began after GPD received a Cyber Tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The Cyber Tip indicated that an account holder uploaded and shared sexual abuse material through the Microsoft Skype platform. Subsequent to the Cyber Tip, GPD Detectives obtained lawful access to the account and the files that were shared. The files shared were determined to be child sexual abuse material of a minor prepubescent child. Further investigation revealed the account was registered to Diego Garcia Olaechea (DOB: 06/25/1983), who lived at the searched residence.

Olaechea was interviewed by GPD Detectives and admitted to sharing the child abuse material through his Skype account. He also admitted to a history of possessing child abuse material. A subsequent digital forensic examination of his laptop revealed over 10,000 images and videos, with over 4,000 identified as child sexual abuse material and 6,000 identified as child erotica.

On Friday, October 16, 2020, Olaechea was taken into custody by GPD Detective Montague and charged with 12 counts of Possession of Child Pornography and 1 Count of Distribution of Child Pornography.
