Gainesville woman charged with child neglect after alleged DUI crash

BY JENNIFER CABRERA

MICANOPY, Fla. – Holly Marie Hunter, 30 was arrested last night following a crash in which two children were injured.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue initially responded to a vehicle off the roadway near U.S. Hwy 411 and SR 25 in Micanopy, followed by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper, who wrote the report.

The Trooper reported that when he arrived, Hunter was at the front of the Deputy’s patrol car and that her two children had already been transported to the hospital. The vehicle reportedly had major damage on the driver’s side, later determined to be a result of earlier crashing into a pole.

The Trooper reported that Hunter had a hard time standing, her speech was slurred, and it appeared as if she was under the influence of some type of narcotic. He reported that while he was speaking with her, she leaned forward, and the contents of her purse shifted, showing two baggies with white powdery residue. He read Hunter her Miranda rights and searched her purse; she reportedly claimed that anything in her purse was not hers and that she didn’t know what the baggies were.

Another Trooper searched Hunter’s person incident to arrest and reportedly found another baggie with a white powdery substance in her bra. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

She is being held on $13,000 bail.
