Press release from Gainesville Youth Chorus
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Youth Chorus (GYC), now in their 33rd year, is holding auditions for youth ages 7-18 for the 2026-2027 Season.
Audition dates are Thursdays, August 13 & 20, 4-6 p.m. at Santa Fe College. Visit www.gainesvilleyouthchorus.com to sign up for an audition slot. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and a love of singing!
The Gainesville Youth Chorus has a highly accomplished artistic staff, including Mitch Rorick, Deborah DesForges, Annie Johnson, Myrtle Schreffler, and Amy Longtin. GYC has two principal performing groups, the Concertina Choir and the Concert Choir. The chorus offers vocal and musicianship programs, individual and group coaching, and unique performance experiences. Need-based scholarships are available.
Performing in a variety of styles, from holiday music to classics, popular, and Broadway, GYC performs throughout the North Central Florida area. In addition to fall and spring concerts, a highlight is GYC’s “A Sweet Taste of Broadway,” featuring solo, small ensemble, and group numbers from some of the great Broadway musicals. Members often utilize the skills they learn at GYC when auditioning for regional and national theatre. Other performing opportunities include the GYC Fall and Spring Concerts, Summer Camp, and singing the national anthem at sporting events.
Established in 1994, the Gainesville Youth Chorus is a not-for-profit, regionally-based chorus for singers ages 7-18 that performs locally, regionally, and internationally. We strive to create an atmosphere in which children can develop and advance their musical talent, demonstrate personal and artistic growth, experience true joy and passion for singing through choral performances, and serve as cultural ambassadors for Gainesville, Florida, USA.
