GFR extinguishes residential fire near SE Hawthorne Road

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville Fire Rescue crews extinguished a fire this afternoon in the 1600 block of SE 3rd Avenue; no injuries were reported.

At about 3:21 p.m. on December 30, crews responded to a residential fire, found heavy smoke coming from the roof, and took immediate action to search the home, confirming that all residents were safely outside. The crew put the fire out and then ventilated the structure to clear the smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
