GFR extricates man from pickup after crash with dump truck

At 4:32 p.m. this afternoon, the Combined Communications Center (CCC) received several 911 calls regarding a two-vehicle accident with one person entrapped inside a vehicle at SE 11th St. and SE 2nd Ave. Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) units Engine 3, Ladder Truck 1, Squad 3, and District 1 responded, along with Alachua County Fire Rescue 35. GFR Squad 3 arrived on the scene within 3 minutes of being dispatched and confirmed that one male driver was entrapped inside a pickup truck that sustained substantial damage from being hit by a dump truck.

Ladder Truck 1 arrived on the scene and began extricating the driver from the vehicle, while GFR Engine 3 Lieutenant Jeffery Jamison attended to the patient from inside the vehicle. District Chief 1 Cary Williams arrived on the scene and established incident command. The patient was extricated from the vehicle within 8 minutes after the first GFR unit arrived on the scene.

The patient was trauma-alerted and transported to Shands by ACFR Rescue 35 in serious but stable condition. The driver of the dump truck was treated on the scene for minor injuries by GFR Squad 3 but refused transport. The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Gainesville Police Department.
