GFR puts out fire overnight at Kid City USA preschool

Press release from Gainesville Fire Rescue

At approximately 3:45 a.m. this morning, Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) crews were dispatched to a fire alarm at 1127 NW 7th Ave (Kid City USA). First-arriving firefighters reported finding a working fire and upgraded the call to a commercial building fire involving a daycare center, which was closed at the time.

Firefighters arrived on scene in approximately eight minutes and immediately began applying water to the fire and searching for victims. A total of 17 firefighters from GFR quickly put the fire out within approximately 12 minutes of arrival. One person suffered  minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by Alachua County Fire Rescue for treatment.

Early notification provided by the fire alarm system, as well as quick and decisive action by firefighters, limited damage from the fire to a moderate level from heat and smoke.

This fire is currently under investigation to determine the origin and cause.
