GPD Internet Crimes against Children Division makes arrest

Owen Rosenberger

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

On Thursday, April 22, 2021, the Gainesville Police Department’s Internet Crimes against Children Division, with the assistance of GPD’s SWAT, served a search warrant at 1000 SW 62nd Boulevard. The investigation was prompted after GPD received numerous Cyber Tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The Cyber Tips indicated that an account holder uploaded and shared child sexual abuse material (CSAM) through Snapchat.

Subsequent to the Cyber Tip, GPD detectives obtained lawful access to the account information and the files that were shared. The files shared were determined to be child sexual abuse material of minor prepubescent children. Further investigation revealed that the account was linked to Owen Rosenberger (DOB: 10/31/1999), who lived at the residence to be searched. Rosenberger was interviewed by GPD detectives on April 22, 2021, and admitted to sharing and possessing the CSAM. As a result of the search warrant, numerous electronic devices capable of storing digital media were seized. Some of these devices were reviewed on scene, and they contained most of the CSAM material shared on Snapchat. Additional images of CSAM were also located. These devices are still undergoing a comprehensive forensic analysis. Rosenberger also stated that he used the Snapchat platform to solicit nude and sexually graphic images of minor children.

Rosenberger was arrested on 7 counts of Distribution of Child Pornography and 5 counts of Possession of Child Pornography.
