GPD investigates crash that fatally injured cyclist

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 27-year-old male was killed yesterday when he attempted to cross NW 16th Avenue on his bicycle and was hit by a vehicle.
According to a release from Gainesville Police Department, on Wednesday, July 15, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a bicyclist in the 300 block of NW 16th Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicates the 27-year-old bicyclist was traveling westbound along the south side of NW 16th Avenue, utilizing the roadway/sidewalk area in the 200–300 block. The bicyclist attempted to cross NW 16th Avenue mid-block to the north side of the roadway and was struck by a westbound vehicle.
The bicyclist was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver remained on scene, and the investigation is continuing.
People are running red lights And not obeying traffic laws whatsoever in Gainesville. This is due because there’s no visible traffic enforcement going on.
Used to be Gainesville was full of cops on motorcycles pulling everyone over. Now nothing, I don’t see them anymore. Too much traffic, not enough enforcement.
Same can be said about many things. Homeless, Illegals, panhandlers. The list goes on, and on.
