GPD investigates hit and run incident
Press release from Gainesville Police Department
At approximately 7:58 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021, Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at NE 55th Avenue and NE Waldo Road.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Vehicle 1 was making a left turn onto NE 55th Place from SR24 (NE Waldo Road), while Vehicle 2 was traveling southbound on SR24 (NE Waldo Road). Vehicle 1 made a left turn in front of Vehicle 2, causing a collision and making Vehicle 2 flip several times before coming to rest on the driver’s side.
Gainesville and Alachua County Fire Rescue also responded to the scene, where they extricated a victim from Vehicle 2, who was later transported to UF Shands with life-threatening injuries. The driver of Vehicle 1, which has significant passenger-side front-end damage, fled the scene.
GPD is asking anyone with information about Vehicle 1 (an olive/green colored 2018-2021 Kia Soul), to contact GPD Officer Debra Page at 352-393-7744 or pagedj@cityofgainesville.org.
