GPD investigating death of motorcyclist

On Sunday, May 23, 2021, at approximately 5:53 p.m., Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at 1300 East University Avenue.

While traveling west at a high rate of speed on East University Avenue, weaving in and out of traffic lanes, the motorcyclist struck a vehicle crossing south through the intersection at NE 13th Street. The motorcyclist was transported to UF Shands ER with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Shands ER with non-life-threatening injuries.

GPD would like to offer its condolences to the family of the motorcyclist. GPD would also like to remind our neighbors to drive safely and to be aware of their surroundings while operating motor vehicles.
