GPD investigating downtown shooting

Gainesville Police Department (GPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred at 2:00 a.m. Friday near NW 1st St. and University Avenue. Preliminary information indicates that two groups of individuals got into a fight in a nearby club and followed each other outside; shots were fired.

GPD is not releasing any additional information at this time, but there are reports that a female victim died.
