GPD investigating homicide near Evergreen Cemetery

On November 21, 2021, at approximately 9:26 p.m., numerous Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to Woodland Park (2000 SE 3rd Terrace) in reference to a person shot. The incident itself occurred at an undetermined time beforehand in the 2200 block of SE 12th Terrace, just east of the Evergreen Cemetery.
After arriving to the Woodland Park scene, officers located an individual male adult with a single gunshot wound to the torso. Officers rendered lifesaving aid until EMS arrived; the victim was transported to UF Shands Health and later died as a result of injuries he sustained.
Investigation by GPD patrol officers and detectives revealed the incident began as a narcotics transaction at the crime scene on SE 12th Terrace. The vehicle driver, an eyewitness passenger, and the victim fled from this location to Woodland Park where the 911 call was made. Detectives believe this incident is isolated in nature and not part of an ongoing crime spree.
