GPD makes arrest in Walgreen’s robbery

OC Johnson

Press release from Gainesville Police Department

On Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers responded to the Walgreen’s located at 1615 NW 13th Street in response to a robbery.

The suspect, later identified as OC Johnson (DOB: 06/18/57), entered the store and pretended to buy a cookie at the counter. When the cashier opened the register, Johnson reached over the counter and forcefully removed the money from the cashier’s hand and fled the store. A separate witness recognized Johnson as the same subject who previously robbed the same Walgreen’s on March 24, 2021.

Another witness observed the robbery and took a photo of Johnson’s vehicle, a black Mitsubishi, as it fled northbound on NW 13th Street from the scene.

Store staff and witnesses did a great job in contacting the police and providing key evidence to help identify Johnson as the offender.

The GPD Criminal Investigation Division (CID) was able to identify the vehicle from the photo and Johnson as the suspect. GPD detectives then observed Johnson pull up to a residence at 810 NW 41st Avenue, when a felony stop was initiated and Johnson was detained.
