GRU Offering Coronavirus Relief Plan

BY JENNIFER CABRERA
GRU is offering a special payment plan to customers with past-due utility bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the plan, residential and commercial customers can call GRU to request a six-month payment schedule for outstanding balances.
GRU will continue to waive late fees through July 17 and will extend its no-shutoffs policy through July 17.
To take advantage of this six-month payment plan, customers must call GRU at 352-334-3434. Customers are strongly encouraged to call and set up a plan prior to July 17.
Customer service representatives are available by phone 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wed.
GRU paused shutoffs and late fees for residential and commercial customers in mid-March, due to the financial uncertainties surrounding COVID-19.
Although businesses are reopening and restrictions loosening, GRU is continuing to suspend shutoffs and late fees through July 17 to give customers time to take advantage of the extended payment plan.

Ed Bielarski, GRU’s General Manager, said in a press release, “We will continue to do whatever we can to ease the financial burden on our community. We hope our Coronavirus Relief Plan lends a measure of comfort to struggling customers during these trying times.”
