Hawthorne home destroyed in morning fire

This morning at 7:00 a.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire Department, and Melrose Fire Department responded to a residential building fire in the city of Hawthorne. En route, crews were advised that all occupants had exited the building. Upon arrival, crews found a residential building with heavy fire on the back. Crews made a quick attack and knocked down the fire. Unfortunately the structure is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the affected family.
