Hawthorne home destroyed in morning fire

Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue

This morning at 7:00 a.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire Department, and Melrose Fire Department responded to a residential building fire in the city of Hawthorne. En route, crews were advised that all occupants had exited the building. Upon arrival, crews found a residential building with heavy fire on the back. Crews made a quick attack and knocked down the fire. Unfortunately the structure is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the affected family.  

Alachua County Fire Rescue reminds you to always have a working smoke alarm in all sleeping areas and one on every floor of your residence. Smoke alarms save lives.
