Hawthorne juvenile arrested following investigation of spring break rifle incident

Press release from Alachua County Sheriff’s Office

On Tuesday, March 29, Juvenile Relations Bureau Deputies made contact with a 15-year-old Hawthorne boy regarding a weapons offense that occurred during spring break. Two victims had reported that they had gone to a residence to hang out with another individual, and the juvenile suspect was also there. While the two were outside, the suspect came out holding what was described as a black/gray rifle, similar to an AR-15; he pointed it at them, making “shooting” type noises. Both victims fled in fear for their safety and reported the incident to law enforcement.

A Diamond Back AR-15 style rifle, multiple magazines, and 100+ rounds of ammunition were located and confiscated by deputies. The juvenile has been arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Minor.
