Hawthorne residential fire contained to porch, living room, and kitchen

Tonight at 5:39 p.m., Alachua County, Melrose, and Windsor Fire Departments responded to the Hawthorne area in SE Alachua County for a residential building fire. The first arriving fire apparatus from Hawthorne arrived on scene and found a single-story wood frame house with the back porch on fire and extending into the main house. 

With the help of Melrose and Windsor, the fire crews were able to contain the fire to the porch, living room, and kitchen of the house. There were no injuries. Red Cross was notified to assist the family. 

Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to ensure that all your smoke detectors are working and that the batteries are changed regularly (spring and fall).
