Hippodrome’s Art Gallery unveils captivating exhibition by Florida-based painter, Josiah Lloyd
Press release from the Hippodrome Theatre
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Hippodrome’s Art Gallery is thrilled to present a remarkable exhibition featuring the works of Florida-based painter, Josiah Lloyd. Despite working in different mediums, Lloyd’s exhibition will only be showcasing paintings.
Josiah Lloyd has spent several years cultivating a powerful body of work that draws inspiration from different art practices. His artistic evolution into painting has been a journey marked by a keen focus on detail, a fusion of mediums, and a commitment to abstraction. The result is a collection of pieces that stand as a testament to Lloyd’s unique perspective on memory, visual language, and the interplay between them.
Lloyd’s paintings invite viewers to engage in the act of seeing through the lens of memory. He deliberately withholds visual information, prompting each viewer to interpret the artwork through their personal experiences. The meticulous placement of layers of tape throughout the painting, lifted later to reveal earlier marks, adds a temporal dimension, conveying a sense of time within the artwork.
The exhibition at Hippodrome’s Art Gallery opens on February 1 and runs through March 3. Art enthusiasts, critics, and the public are invited to experience the magic of Josiah Lloyd’s exhibition during gallery hours.
In a special highlight, the gallery will participate in the Artwalk Gainesville on Friday, February 23, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This event offers a unique opportunity for the community to engage with the artwork, meet the artist, and immerse themselves in the vibrant arts scene.
