Independence Day schedules and waste collection

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Other than emergency services, all Alachua County government offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
Due to the observance of Independence Day, there will be no residential curbside collection services for solid waste, recycling, and yard trash on Tuesday, July 4. Services will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. The collections for Monday, July 3, will not be affected by the holiday. The regular schedule for these services will resume the following week on Monday, July 10.
The Leveda Brown Environmental Park and Transfer Station, the Hazardous Waste Collection Center, and the Office of Waste Collection will also be closed on Tuesday, July 4, and will reopen on Wednesday, July 5. The five Rural Collection Centers will reopen on Friday, July 7.
Alachua County Animal Resources will be closed for the Independence Day holiday on July 4, 2023. They will reopen on Wednesday, July 5.
Animal Resources Officers respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays, to matters affecting public safety and animals in immediate danger. Citizens should dial 911 to report such emergencies on Sundays, holidays, and between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. nightly.
Visit the Animal Resources website to see the selection of shelter pets awaiting adoption. The website also has information on fostering and other volunteer opportunities. The shelter is open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The Florida Department of Health in Alachua County will be closed on July 3 and July 4. On all other days, offices will be open regular hours (Hours vary depending on services needed.).
