WALDO, Fla. – A 41-year-old Jacksonville woman was killed this morning in a crash on U.S. Hwy 301, south of Waldo.
At about 11:30 a.m. on November 30, the Jacksonville woman was driving a sedan southbound in the inside lane of U.S. Hwy 301 near NW 116th Avenue, and a pickup truck driven by a 58-year-old woman from Hortense, GA, was driving northbound in the inside lane of U.S. Hwy 301.
For reasons that are still under investigation, the sedan failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and traveled through the median and into the northbound travel lanes, directly in the path of the pickup truck. The vehicles collided head-on, and the driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, and her 82-year-old female passenger, also from Hortense, GA, was transported to a hospital with critical injuries.
According to the release from the Florida Highway Patrol, the sedan driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the two occupants of the pickup truck were not wearing seatbelts.
