January 2 COVID data update

According to the state dashboard, Alachua County reported an increase of 364 positive COVID-19 tests over the past 2 days (225 on 12/31 and 139 on 1/1), with an official test positivity rate of 9.49% yesterday. Four new deaths were reported.

The new deaths:

63-year-old male, emergency room and hospitalization unknown, tested positive 10/27
62-year-old female, visited emergency room and was hospitalized, tested positive 11/22
84-year-old female, visited emergency room and was hospitalized, tested positive 11/30
86-year-old male, emergency room and hospitalization unknown, tested positive 12/17

None were in long-term care.

Of the people whose positive tests came back yesterday, 14 were 65 or older (this is the important number to track because those are the people who are more likely to have bad outcomes).

A total of 133 deaths have been reported in the county, 40 of which were in long-term care.

The overall number of people (from all counties) hospitalized here for COVID-19 increased from 179 to 187.

State COVID-19 hospitalizations increased to 6,701 today.

The state reported 31,518 new positive tests over the past 2 days (official positivity rate of 10.13% yesterday) and a net increase of 217 deaths, 57 of which were from long-term care facilities.

Changes in the number of deaths were reported on 53 different dates, going back to July 21. Changes by month: July (+2), Aug (+11), Sept (+7), Oct (+2), November (+6), December (+189), January (+1)

The peaks are on July 30-31 (234) and August 4 (239), and the 7-day moving average peak is August 5 (227).

The 7-day average plateau between July 25 and August 7 has been stable since I started reporting the peaks on August 27.
