Jennifer Ayala named No Kid Hungry Florida’s 2025 Summer Hunger Hero

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – No Kid Hungry Florida has named its 2025 Summer Hunger Heroes, the individuals whose superpower is connecting kids to healthy meals throughout the summer and tackling child hunger. 

Jennifer Ayala, program specialist for Alachua County Public Schools and manager of the district’s Summer Food Service Program, is one of six individuals being recognized for going the extra mile to make sure kids get the nutrition they need during the summer. 

Working closely with City, County, and local church partners, Jennifer expanded non-congregate meal services, increasing options for families to access summer meals.

“Jennifer has gone above and beyond to ensure every child in Alachua County receives nutritious meals during the summer,” said Jamie Lovett, food and nutrition services director for Alachua County Public Schools. “Her hands-on management of more than 80 meal sites and dedication to staff training helped make this summer a success. Jennifer’s leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on the children and families we serve.”

The summer can be a difficult time for many kids. Individuals like Jennifer play a major role in ensuring kids return to school well-nourished and ready to learn. 

“We’re proud to honor Jennifer Ayala for her commitment to ensuring children and families have reliable access to nutritious food,” said Joshua Proffitt, program manager at No Kid Hungry Florida. “Coordinating staff training and working closely with community partners requires incredible dedication. Her leadership not only feeds kids but also provides families with peace of mind throughout the summer.”
