Johnny Mullenax brings genre-bending roots rock to Heartwood Soundstage

Press release from Heartwood Soundstage
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Heartwood Soundstage welcomes Tulsa native Johnny Mullenax for a live performance on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., with the show beginning at 6:00 p.m. This all-ages concert takes place at Heartwood Soundstage, located at 619 S Main St, Gainesville, FL.
Raised in a deeply musical family, Johnny Mullenax picked up the guitar at just five years old and never looked back. As a teenager, he followed his family to the legendary Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas — often arriving with nothing more than a guitar and crashing for the night inside a standup bass case. By 18, Mullenax was sneaking into clubs with a borrowed ID, cutting his teeth in live hip-hop bands backing rappers, and absorbing the lessons of any stage that would have him.
That wide-open musical upbringing fuels Mullenax’s fearless approach today. Drawing influence from artists as varied as AC/DC, The Ramones, John Coltrane, and Parliament, he blends twang, grit, groove, and improvisation into a sound he proudly calls “a funky country bluegrass good time for working folks.” His music refuses to sit still, moving effortlessly between roots, traditions, and modern energy with humor, soul, and undeniable swagger.
With a reputation for high-energy performances and boundary-free songwriting, Johnny Mullenax delivers a live show that’s as surprising as it is joyful — equal parts barn-burner, jam session, and dance-floor release. Audiences at Heartwood can expect a night of bold musicianship, deep groove, and genre-defying Americana at its most alive.
