Kanapaha Church to hold “Tracing Your Ancestors” workshop on April 15

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Join us on Saturday, April 15, at 1 p.m. for a “Tracing Your Ancestors” workshop by Tatanya Peterson, descendant and genealogist, and Karen Kirkman, President & Historian, Historic Haile Homestead Inc. The workshop will be held at Kanapaha Church, 6221 SW 75th Terrace, Gainesville

Peterson will share how she traced her family line back to Hampton and Grace Hathcock, her 4x great grandparents, who were enslaved on the plantation of James Chesnut, near Alachua, Florida. Learn about the discoveries she made and how she made them. Kirkman, a volunteer transcriber, will discuss how to access and query the online Alachua County Ancient Records and what might be discovered there.
