Largest Passover Seder in the country to take place at UF’s O’Connell Center on April 1
Press release from Chabad UF Jewish Student & Community Center
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Wednesday evening, April 1st, Chabad UF Jewish Student & Community Center will host what is expected to be the largest single-seated Passover Seder in the United States, bringing together more than 1,200 Jewish students, faculty, alumni, and community members at the University of Florida’s O’Connell Center – Exactech Arena.
With Passover beginning just days after spring break, thousands of Jewish students remain on campus. Chabad UF is once again transforming the O’Dome into a massive Seder experience, ensuring that no Jewish student celebrates Passover alone.
“This is more than a Seder — it’s a powerful statement of Jewish pride, unity, and resilience,” said Rabbi Berl Goldman, director of Chabad UF. “At a time when Jewish students are seeking connection and strength, we are creating a space where they can celebrate their identity together with joy and meaning.”
The evening will begin with doors opening at 5:15 p.m., followed by a full traditional Seder featuring hand-made Shmurah Matzah, the four cups of wine, the retelling of the Exodus from Egypt, and a festive Kosher-for-Passover meal complete with brisket and all the traditional foods.
University leadership, state and local officials, and community dignitaries are expected to attend and show their support for the Jewish student community.
“Passover is about freedom, identity, and belonging,” said Chanie Goldman, co-director of Chabad UF. “For so many students who cannot be home with their families, this becomes their family Seder. The warmth, the traditions, and the sense of community here are something truly special.”
Student leaders say the impact is deeply personal.
“My friends and I can’t wait to attend. Being part of something this big and meaningful is incredibly powerful,” said Leon Calef, a UF sophomore studying business administration and Executive member of the Chabad UF Student Group. “You look around the arena and see thousands of Jewish students celebrating together, it reminds you that you’re part of something strong, proud, and unbreakable.”
The Seder will feature traditional songs, stories, and rituals that have been passed down for over 3,000 years, creating an immersive and meaningful experience for participants of all backgrounds and levels of observance.
In addition to the first-night Seder at the O’Connell Center, Chabad UF will host a second-night Seder and provide more than 4,000 kosher-for-Passover meals throughout the holiday.
The event is free for students and RSVP required at PassoverUF.com.
Extensive security measures will be in place to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
