LDS Church ships food to One Community Family Resource Center
Press release from One Community Family Resource Center
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — One Community Family Resource Center / Food Is Medicine Program is proud to announce a major community food relief initiative that will bring thousands of pounds of food to families in East Gainesville and the surrounding area. A semi truck filled with 40,000 pounds of donated food and essential supplies is being shipped from the Bishop’s Central Storehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah, to help combat hunger and food insecurity in one of Gainesville’s most underserved regions.
This effort is made possible through the generosity of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its leadership team, including Jake Smith, Stake President for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Pensacola area and Senate President Appointee to the Florida Faith-Based and Community Advisory Council.
President Jonathan Pritt, who oversees eight congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gainesville and surrounding Levy, Gilchrist, Dixie, and Putnam Counties, said that the semi truck’s delivery marks a powerful act of unity and compassion across state lines, directly supporting families who often face limited access to fresh and affordable groceries.
“This is more than a donation — it’s a movement of love and compassion,” said Pastor Gerard Duncan, Community Leader and Executive Director of the One Community Family Resource Center / Food Is Medicine Program. “With the help and support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we’re able to extend our existing program and provide hope and relief to families who have gone too long without access to basic food needs.”
