League of Women Voters to host candidate forums for upcoming City Commission elections in Alachua and Newberry

ALACHUA, Fla. – The League of Women Voters of Alachua County, a non-partisan organization dedicated to informing and engaging voters, is hosting two candidate forums for the upcoming April 8th elections in the cities of Alachua and Newberry. These forums will be held to provide voters with the opportunity to hear directly from candidates and make informed decisions ahead of Election Day.
The forum schedule is below:
- Alachua City Commission Candidate Forum â Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hathcock Community Center, 15818 NW 140th St, Alachua. All candidates have been invited to participate. Contests for City Commission Seat 1 (Mayor) and Seat 2 will be on the ballot.
- Newberry City Commission Candidate Forum â Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mentholee Norfleet Municipal Building, 25440 W Newberry Rd, Newberry. All candidates have been invited to participate. Contests for Mayor, Commissioner Group IV, and Commissioner Group V will be on the ballot.
Each forum will give all candidates the same opportunity to discuss their platforms, address key issues, and interact with residents. The event will be moderated to ensure a fair and respectful discussion.
The forums are free and open to the public. For those unable to attend in person, the League will make a full recording available after the event.
