Man arrested for intentionally spraying medical provider with blood at Shands

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Frederick Anthony Roesch, 52, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with battery on an emergency medical care provider after allegedly intentionally spraying blood on other people at Shands. He was booked into the jail yesterday afternoon.

At about 8 p.m. Wednesday night, Roesch went to Shands for treatment of an injury to his hand. As he walked down the hallway, he reportedly removed the bandage from his hand, which was still bleeding profusely, then allegedly began “willfully and maliciously” waving his arm around to spray blood on people while yelling that he wanted to get everyone sick (reportedly referring to being HIV-positive). The victim, a medical care provider in the Shands Emergency Room, was reportedly covered in Roesch’s blood.

Two witnesses saw the incident and reportedly corroborated the victim’s story.

Post Miranda, Roesch reportedly did not want to speak to the responding Gainesville Police Department officer.

Roesch’s address is listed in Jacksonville, but his workplace is listed as a temporary agency in Gainesville. He has a criminal history going back to 2003 in Gainesville, with three local felony convictions. He has served seven prison terms for convictions in Alachua, Hillsborough, and Levy Counties, with his most recent release in June 2022.

Bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Another idiot who can’t stay out of prison. He needs to stay in for a while. Obviously can not function like a human being.

  • He was bleeding out. Should have taken him to the morgue, it’s doubtful someone would have claimed him though.

    • You have multiple DUIs. You think you deserved immediate death too?

      • I actually have a couple. Multiple implies more than 2. And if I killed someone, yes. But I didn’t. And these were over 10 years ago. Bringing them up doesn’t phase me one bit. 352-327-6056 to discuss in person. I’d love to hear from you.

        • Your sins are forgiven…..now go forward and sin no more (or at least a little bit less).

        • I’m flattered. But this gentleman didn’t kill anyone either. And there’s a good argument that driving a several ton machine while intoxicated, repeatedly, endangered far more lives.

          • Men aren’t supposed to be this catty. Ima let you have this.

    • So this must mean you have a clean record nothing in your past at all we all do no one deserves death stop and think before you post on how this comment may make his family feel.

  • Why was he recruited to Gainesville, and which fake Dem “temp agency” is getting gumment kickbacks? Biden malaise again.

  • Seven prison terms? The second should have told the powers that be to keep him where the public is safe.

  • Heath care workers risk their lives every day. OSHA reports that nearly 75% of all assaults in the workplace occur in healthcare.

  • This did NOT happen like this!!! And I’m so embarrassed to stand behind a company who doesn’t state ANY truth! This is such a clout article!

  • For those of you that has posted on you one thing you don’t know he was bleeding to death due to the issue with his hand and was not in his right mind due to loss of blood and the medication they where pumping in him at the hospital. Your past is just that your past so if you don’t know the whole story stop judging people I’m sure you all have things in your past too remember the Bible says judge not least ye be judged.
