Man charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his stepfather

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jon’marrion De’shauntuez Hunter, 19, was arrested yesterday and charged with attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting his stepfather twice.

At about 3:50 p.m., a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call from a woman who said her son had shot her husband. A few minutes later, the victim’s son flagged down an officer in the 1300 block of E. University Avenue to say that he was transporting his father to the hospital with gunshot wounds, but his father was having trouble breathing. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he is reportedly in critical condition.

The victim’s wife reportedly told an officer that Hunter does not live with her but comes to the apartment at Pine Meadows frequently. She said her husband came home from work and confronted Hunter about eating and hanging out at the house and not cleaning up after himself, and her husband and Hunter began arguing. She said her husband pushed Hunter out of the house, but Hunter came back in, saying he was looking for his phone; she said Hunter also said he was taking his infant son with him, but she would not allow him to take his son because she had been the primary caretaker since the child was two months old. She said Hunter pushed her husband and then she heard two gunshots. The victim’s son got the victim into a car and began driving him toward the hospital.

Hunter also reportedly called 911 and said, “He hit me and I shot him.” Officers made contact with him in the 400 block of NE 22nd Terrace, where he reportedly tossed a pistol to the ground and said, “He pulled my hair, so I shot him.”

Post Miranda, Hunter reportedly said the victim had been upset over the cleanliness of the house, and they started arguing. He said the victim pulled his hair and punched him, so he left, but then he put on his hoodie, took his gun from his backpack, and put it in his hoodie pocket. He said he went back inside to get his son, but his mother said he could not have his son.

The arresting officer reported that Hunter provided multiple inconsistent accounts of what happened after that, but he finally said that the victim saw the gun in the hoodie pocket, asked what it was, and lifted the gun in the pocket, causing it to slide toward the edge of the pocket. Hunter reportedly said that he grabbed the gun to keep it from falling out of the pocket, then the victim grabbed the hand holding the gun and knocked it against the wall. Hunter said the victim punched him in the head with his other hand, causing him to fall backwards, and he shot the victim because he was in fear for his life. After the first shot, he said, the victim charged at him again, and he shot him again.

The officer reported that based on Hunter’s statements, he left the apartment, armed himself, and came back; Hunter reportedly had no injuries that would be consistent with his statement about being hit by the victim, and he was near the door at the time of the argument and could have left at any time if he thought he was in danger.

Hunter has no adult criminal history. Judge Tatum Davis ordered him held without bail.

  • If one names a child Jon’marrion De’shauntuez , one can expect strange behavior.

    • Actually if the father had pulled out 19 years ago, this could have been prevented.

    • Is the GNVCC’s gun violence plan going to require haircuts, ban hoodies, and make it illegal for 19 year old kids
      To conceal guns?

      Where’s the baby momma?

    • A gun buy back would not have prevented Jon’marrion from coming over to his step father’s house and shooting him, being a slob, and bringing a child into this world that he can’t take care of…

A haircut would have prevented his mop head from being pulled!

Jon” Marion . De’shuantuez said, quote: …”he pulled my hair so I shot him”

      • Jon’ Marion de’ shuantuez (he must be French) was in fear for the life of his mop- head hair-do…

“He pulled my hair so I shot him”.

self defense! Tell that to the jury!

Or, “if there was a gun buy back, I wouldn’t have shot his ass.”

He’ll be doing time for attempted murder…his mother can bring his child to see him in prison on visitation days.

  • Folks no matter what the local Gov’ts try to do to fix these patterns with their various programs it’s not fixable. If it was things would be trending upwards not downwards over the years.

I haven’t a clue what the solution would be, realistically, but LBJs effective vote getting schemes of the 60s have done quite a number on society and there’s no political will nationally to even bring it up so lets just chalk it up to part of the managed decline of society.

    • Mandatory Boot Camp and Military Service should be implemented or the Chain Gang! Undisciplined and irresponsible kids running wild creating more of the same.
Many of us were drafted to maintain the Freedom Americans enjoy. We were sent to Viet Nam under the
Democrat LBJ, POS, not to win but to feed the war machine
What a joke this great society is. Please vote responsibly!

      • I’m glad your name isn’t on that black wall in DC. So many of our generation are and even those who came back, many were scared for life and never fully recovered.

  • But does he have a juvenile crime history in our fair, lawyer-run community?
Parents who name their babies they can’t even remember how to spell later, should be prosecuted for cruelty to children. “Jon’marrion De’shauntuez” is a victim of Section 8 culture, not anybody else, except of course ACLUSPLCDNC and District 1 💩🤡👹👺👿

  • Jon’Marion is a ward of the state now.. the judge should mandate a haircut so he looks respectable before the
Court & system…it should be automatic that all proud hair-doos
That make you look like a thug or drug dealer be groomed for sanitary reasons at the jail…you know, Covid germs or lice, whatever….

  • If I was on the jury, he goes to Raiford for shooting his stepfather for pulling his hair.

However, if he shot his real father and mother, and I was on the jury, if he claimed “They ruined my life and performed child cruelty naming me “Jon’marrion De’shauntuez” I might have to consider letting him off.

    • Nah..he a bad seed…”like father like son”.

his baby gonna be outta control too.

Kamala should require parents to have a permit before they can conceive like in China…

  • “She said her husband pushed Hunter out of the house, but Hunter came back in, saying he was looking for his phone; she said Hunter also said he was taking his infant son with him, but she would not allow him to take his son because she had been the primary caretaker since the child was two months old”

Sounds like a section 8 nirvana. Can’t wait till they impose ‘affordable housing’ (section 8) near me.

If you can’t take care of yourself and feed and educate your offspring, you shouldn’t have any.

It takes a village to raise a child is a commi slogan.

  • Jon’marrion De’shauntuez ??? ROFLMAO! This has to be one of the worst made up african names I’ve ever seen. Congrats to the parent.

  • Why does every, single, comment go to “moderation”? I’d really like to know and I hope someone from the Chronical will answer. It’s absurd that every comment must go to moderation.

    • Every single comment does not go to moderation (this one didn’t). There is a list of words that sends a comment to moderation. Comments are usually approved quickly if they go to moderation.

    • They have to see if our comments will offend anyone it’s funny I can post anything like the sky is blue. It goes to moderation. My wife can post something no moderation. I believe certain people are targeted by their past comments just a guess
