Man on probation arrested for home invasion robbery and fleeing

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Taurus Cordarryl Duncan, 36, was arrested yesterday on a warrant for home invasion robbery after allegedly fleeing from a police officer.

At about 5:15 p.m. on December 6, Duncan reportedly got into an argument with a woman he was dating, and when she asked him to leave her residence, he left. However, about 10 minutes later, he allegedly came back and kicked open the door to her residence, causing about $500 in damage. Once inside, he allegedly said he wanted his gifts back and snatched a necklace from her neck and a wig from her head; he reportedly threw both on the floor and left but said he would return. A Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer filed a sworn complaint, charging Duncan with burglary of an occupied dwelling, unarmed home invasion robbery, and domestic battery, and a warrant was issued for Duncan’s arrest.

At about 12:41 p.m. on December 17, a GPD officer saw Duncan driving in the 3000 block of East University Avenue and activated his lights and sirens. Duncan allegedly drove for about 100 feet before stopping; when the officer told Duncan to get out of the vehicle, Duncan allegedly fled at a high rate of speed, running several stop signs.

Duncan’s vehicle was found outside a duplex on NE 21st Avenue, and he was reportedly seen running into an apartment. He tried to go out the back door of the apartment but went back inside when he encountered an officer. After additional officers arrived and surrounded the building, Duncan reportedly climbed out of a window and allegedly ran before being apprehended.

Duncan has been charged with fleeing with lights and sirens active and resisting an officer without violence for the December 17 incident.

Duncan, a registered Sexual Offender, has four felony convictions (one sexual offense with a juvenile victim); he has served two state prison sentences and was released in 2017. He is on probation in Bradford County. Judge Jonathan Ramsey ordered him held without bail on the burglary and home invasion charges, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing. Judge Ramsey set bail at $60,000 on the other charges.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
