Matheson History Museum 30th Anniversary Sock Hop to be held on March 9

Press release from Matheson History Museum
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Join us to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Matheson History Museum with a Sock Hop in the former American Legion Hall! This ticketed event will hearken back to the days of Teen Time and high school dances in the Museum building – including several performances in 1965 by Tom Petty’s first band, the Sundowners. Break out your best pair of socks for an evening of live music, and good food, and dance the night away.
DATE: Saturday, March 9
TIME: 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
COST: $30 for the general public, $25 for Matheson members
TICKETS: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/30th-anniversary-sock-hop-tickets-828691567787?aff=oddtdtcreator
We will also be celebrating the opening of our newest exhibition: Weaving a Community: 30 Years of the Matheson History Museum. The exhibition takes an all-encompassing view of the Matheson’s history and its origins – from the Matheson family’s arrival in the 1850s to the Museum today.
Catering will be provided by Hill’s BBQ – cooked fresh on site hamburgers, hot dogs, onion rings, and more! Founded in 1987, Hill’s BBQ is one of many local businesses started by the Hill Family in Gainesville. They’re most well-known for their moving company – Hill’s Van Service – which was founded by Mike, Sr. in 1951.
We are excited to have local band The Impostors provide the music. Bring your dancing shoes! Mix Maven Mobile Bartending will be providing wine, beer, and a signature cocktail. Meldon Law is generously sponsoring the bar.
This event is sponsored in part by Visit Gainesville/Alachua County, FL; The City of Gainesville; and by the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council of the Arts and Culture, and the State of Florida.
