May is National Foster Care Month

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – 170 children are living in foster care from Alachua County. These children have been sheltered or removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment and placed in foster care for their safety. While biological parents work to bring their children home safely, children need loving, nurturing foster homes where they can heal and thrive. During National Foster Care Month, Partnership for Strong Families is raising awareness about foster care, the need for more foster parents, and inviting the community to partner with them to show appreciation for current foster families.

Brittany reflects on becoming a foster parent, “Getting involved in foster care is a great way to serve your community! Personally, I’ve found it incredibly rewarding to come alongside kids and families to help them heal and thrive. Once you see the need, it’s impossible to turn a blind eye.”

Partnership for Strong Families is hosting 3 virtual info sessions this month for anyone who would like to learn more about foster care in their community – May 11th, May 21st, or May 26th at 7 p.m. This is a great opportunity to hear from experienced professionals about the roles everyone can play in supporting children and families.
