Press release from Santa Fe College

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe College’s Institute of Public Safety will host an open house on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Kirkpatrick Center, 3737 NE 39th Avenue in Gainesville.

The event showcases the college’s EMT, Paramedic, Law Enforcement, and Corrections programs. Local agencies will join the event with emergency vehicles, specialized equipment, and recruitment teams on site.

Visitors can explore state-of-the-art training simulators, tour scenario-based training facilities, and learn more about careers in public safety.

The Gainesville Police Department SMART Motorcycle Rodeo will also be taking place on the driving pad for spectators. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the rodeo will allow spectators to watch the riders navigate through cone courses designed to showcase varying skill levels.

“Over the past few years, Gainesville has experienced an increase in traffic crashes involving motorcycles and scooters,” Dr. Sergeant Lynn Valdes, Gainesville Police Department, said. “The SMART program promotes safer riding practices through education and enforcement efforts.”

Santa Fe College’s Institute of Public Safety equips students with the skills and training needed to protect and serve their communities through degrees, certificates, and basic recruit training. It also offers continuing education for professionals and includes the Criminal Justice Technology A.S. program, with courses online and in person.

Step into the world of public safety on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
