WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) proudly announces the kickoff of American Pharmacists Month (APhM) throughout October 2025. This year’s campaign, themed “Caring for Our Communities,” is dedicated to recognizing the pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student pharmacists who stand as the most accessible healthcare providers, delivering essential care, advice, and public health services to millions of Americans every day.

Observed annually, APhM provides an opportunity to raise public awareness of the essential, expanded role pharmacists play in modern healthcare. No longer solely dispensers of medicine, today’s pharmacists are medication experts, immunizers, clinical counselors, and vital navigators for patients managing complex, chronic conditions. With over 90% of the U.S. population living within five miles of a community pharmacy, these professionals are often the first — and sometimes only — point of clinical contact for underserved populations.

This year’s theme, “Caring for Our Communities,” reflects the profession’s deep commitment to addressing local health challenges, improving health equity, and integrating into collaborative care teams. Pharmacists provide critical services such as administering flu and COVID-19 vaccines, conducting medication therapy management (MTM), managing blood pressure and diabetes, and connecting patients with resources to address social determinants of health (SDOH). Their dedication ensures that communities remain safe, informed, and resilient in the face of public health crises and everyday health needs.

“The theme ‘Caring for Our Communities’ is more than a slogan — it is the fundamental purpose of the pharmacy profession,” said Dr. Lena Chen, APhA President and CEO. “Throughout the past year, pharmacy professionals continued to face immense challenges while expanding access to clinical services. During American Pharmacists Month, we celebrate their unwavering resilience and shine a light on their impact as frontline healthcare providers who are actively working to close gaps in patient care and uplift the health of their neighbors.”

APhA encourages the public to join the celebration by thanking their local pharmacy team and learning more about the range of services pharmacists provide. Key awareness dates in October include:

  • National Pharmacy Week (October 19–25, 2025): Recognizing the invaluable contributions of all pharmacy personnel in hospitals, clinics, and community settings.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Day (October 21, 2025): Honoring the critical role pharmacy technicians play in ensuring safe and efficient medication distribution and workflow.

The American Pharmacists Association invites all healthcare stakeholders, policymakers, and the public to use the hashtags #APhM2025 and #CaringForOurCommunities throughout October to share stories of how pharmacists have made a difference in their lives.
