Archer man killed in single-vehicle accident

Yesterday at 5:44 p.m., units from Alachua County Fire Rescue responded to a single-vehicle accident near where SW 141st Place intersects SW 170th Street in Archer. Upon arrival, they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree head-on. There was significant damage to the vehicle, and the driver was unconscious and trapped in the vehicle. Crews used the “Jaws of Life” to remove the patient from the vehicle. The extrication took approximately 6 minutes to complete. The patient, a 45-year-old Archer man, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
