Updated: One person hospitalized after accident at CR 235 and NW 78th Ave

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – At 6:45 a.m. this morning, crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR) responded to a reported vehicle accident with extrication at NW 78th Ave and CR 235.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the pickup truck, driven by a 28-year-old Trenton man, was traveling east on NW 78th Avenue approaching the intersection of CR 235. The Toyota SUV, driven by a 66-year-old Gainesville woman, was traveling north on CR 235 approaching the intersection. The driver of the truck ran the stop sign, and the SUV hit the right side of the truck. The truck overturned on the east shoulder of CR 235.
Upon arrival, ACFR units quickly triaged the patients and began treatment. The driver of the truck was removed with minor extrication and no injuries. A trauma alert was issued for the driver of the SUV, and she was transported to UF Health Shands with serious injuries.
The accident is currently under investigation by Florida Highway Patrol. ACFR would like to remind everyone to drive carefully and always wear a seat belt this holiday season.

How do you not stop at that stop sign?? There’s railroad tracks right before the intersection!
People have been killed at that intersection… Maybe Alachua County could put a flashing red light there, or at least some serious rumble strips??

I agree, an ounce of prevention……this is an easy way to combat distracted driving.
Obvious careless driving again! This is why PI attorneys are getting rich! Sad this causes injuries and/or death. Some people need not be driving!
