One person in serious condition after Orange Heights accident

Press release from Alachua County Fire Rescue

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – At about 1:45 a.m. this morning, Alachua County Fire Rescue, Melrose Fire Department, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, and the ShandsCair helicopter responded to a single-vehicle accident requiring extrication just south of Orange Heights on the southbound side of U.S. 301.

Units arrived to find an extended cab pickup truck that had struck a tree; the truck’s only occupant was the driver, who was restrained in an upright position. After approximately 30 minutes, personnel on scene were able to remove the driver with the use of the “Jaws of Life.” The patient was in serious condition and placed on a Long Spine Back Board and moved to the waiting ShandsCair Helo for transport to Shands Main ED.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Alachua County Fire Rescue would like to remind everyone to always wear seatbelts and drive with caution during the upcoming holiday season.
