One woman transported to a hospital, two cats killed in fast-moving house fire
Press release from High Springs Fire Department
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – At 3:28 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, firefighters from High Springs, Alachua County, and Newberry were dispatched to 16528 NW State Road 45, an enclave in Unincorporated Alachua County, for a reported residential building fire.Â
At 3:33 p.m., firefighters arrived on the scene of a roughly 800-square-foot, single-story wood frame home with heavy smoke and fire showing from the side and rear of the structure. Within three minutes of arrival, firefighters had water on the fire. By 3:48, the fire was out, and crews began a lengthy process known as overhaul. Overhauling is the process of searching for hidden fire extensions on a fire scene, which occurs soon after the main fire has been extinguished.
The cause of the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen where the homeowner was cooking. One female patient in the home was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Unfortunately, two beloved cats died because of the fire.
