Crews from Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a report of an outside fire at the 1300 block of NE 28th Ave. this afternoon. Upon arrival, crews found an outside fire that spread to several large out-buildings in the backyard of the neighboring property. Flames extended so high that power lines in the area were impinged, creating a minor power outage to the neighborhood. Rapid intervention by the first arriving crews prevented the fire from reaching adjacent homes. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze in 10 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation. GRU line crews were standing by to repair the damaged power lines. Gainesville Fire Rescue reminds residents that outside open burning is not permitted in the City limits. Any fire for cooking or recreation must be in an approved container to prevent spread.
