Pedestrian killed on Waldo Road

Gainesville Police Department received a call this morning at 6:49 a.m., reporting a traffic crash involving a logging truck and a pedestrian on NE Waldo Rd (SR 24), just north of the intersection of East University Ave (SR 26).

Upon arrival, Officers observed a body in the roadway and other vehicles stopped nearby. Immediate first aid was rendered, but no signs of life were observed. Witnesses described a logging truck that hit the pedestrian and did not stop; officers were able to locate it further north on NE Waldo Rd. The driver was detained and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver’s initial response was that they did not know they were involved in a crash.

Traffic Homicide Investigators responded to conduct the investigation, and the roadway was shut down for evidence processing. The identity of the deceased and details of what happened are still under investigation.
