Pig sanctuary’s mission is to help abandoned, surrendered, or neglected pigs

Press release from Maxine’s Hideaway

ALACHUA, Fla. – Maxine’s Hideaway is a pig sanctuary, recently started in Alachua by longtime pig advocates Dan & Cara Richman. Their mission is to provide a permanent loving home to abandoned/neglected/surrendered pigs.

The sanctuary is on a 10-acre lot featuring 2.5 acres of pasture, two barns, and a chicken coop. There are currently 11 residents (5 pigs and 6 chickens), but they plan to take more as space allows.

At present the sanctuary is not open to the public, but more information can be found at MaxinesHideaway.com or the pig sanctuary’s Facebook page.

The nonprofit is currently fundraising to build a 12×15 wallow for the “big boys.”
