Pizza Hut closed after fire

At 11:43 p.m. on Sunday, the Combined Communications Center received a 911 call about a building fire at 3515 SW Archer Rd (Pizza Hut). The caller advised that there was smoke inside the restaurant and flames coming from the roof.

Gainesville Fire Rescue units Engine 2, Ladder truck 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ladder truck 9, Heavy Rescue Squad 1, District 1, District 2, and GFR Fire Investigator 231 responded. Alachua County Fire Rescue Engine 80 and Transport Rescue 80 also responded.

GFR Engine 2 arrived on the scene and reported that smoke and flames were visible from the roof of the building. GFR Ladder truck 9 entered the building, completed a search, and determined that all occupants were out of the building.

GFR (E2) extinguished the fire from the roof within minutes of arriving on the scene. Multiple GFR units laddered the building, immediately stopping the fire from spreading throughout the whole building.

A total of 4 Engines, 2 Trucks, 1 Squad, 1 Rescue, and two District Chiefs responded to this call. All occupants were accounted for, and there were no injuries reported. Damage from the fire was contained to the roof. GFR District Chief Cary Williams made contact with the manager of the restaurant and was advised that the restaurant will remain closed. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by GFR Fire Investigator Kelly DeRasmo.
