Pofahl Studios announces its 69th annual student recital

Press release from Dance Alive National Ballet

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Pofahl Studios, the resident school for Dance Alive National Ballet, will hold its 69th annual student recital with a performance of Aladdin on May 25 at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

It’s pretty amazing to have a business going into its 70th year, but that is just what Pofahl Studios is doing! The school, which has trained three generations of Alachua County dancers, is presenting Aladdin, with students displaying a year’s worth of work doing what they love.

The moral of this story is to be true to yourself, and you will find true love.
And you don’t need to be a Prince to do it!

Graduating seniors featured in the program include Rebecca Wynn as the Geni and Lea Sanchez as Jasmine. Ms. Sanchez will attend Santa Fe College pursing Exercise Sciences on a PA track with a Minor in Spanish. Ms. Wynn will attend UCF for aerospace engineering on a scholarship, working to develop telescopes for use in space exploration.

Dance Alive National Ballet Principal Tales Ribeiro will dance the role of Prince Ali with DANB Corp de Ballet member Victor Mancuso as Jafar. DANB Principal Dancer and Assistant Artistic Director Andre Valladon will perform as the Sultan with Corp de Ballet member Leah Perine as Iago. DANB Soloist Stirling Kolb will also be featured.

As usual, audience favorites promise to be the pre-ballet classes of 3- and 4-year-olds. You can always expect the unexpected with this age group! You will LOVE the Flamingos! Sure to be appreciated, there will be a featured performance by members of The Next Generation. Another audience favorite is “The Family Dance,” where dancers and family members take the stage, showcasing their talents and finishing with an enthusiastic kick line.

The faculty, all members of DANB, and dancers promise you an entertaining show from beginning to end.  Classical and neo-classical ballet, contemporary, acrobatics, hip-hop, tap, jazz – from pre-ballet to pre-professional,… this show has it all.
